it's patio time!

So my first photography class was about 3 weeks ago and was all about learning the vocabulary (f-stop, aperture, ISO) and how to actually turn the camera on.  In the 2nd class, we learned some fun things about focus and depth of field.  Here are some shots I took up on my roof deck this afternoon to try these things out... I think some of these are probably a bit over-exposed as I realized I hadn't changed one of my settings back from class. Oh well - check them out anyways...

Placed the chair in front - now I'm getting some bluriness of the background..

And then added my N cup...

Decreasing the depth of field by increasing the focal length...

Focus is now on the chair...

Focus now on the buildings in the background..

it's snap time!
